Nipple and Areolar Reduction

Perfect breast shape requires nipples and areolas that adhere to the golden ratio. Some individuals may naturally have larger nipples and areolas, or breastfeeding may lead to changes such as elongation or enlargement of the nipples, causing inconvenience in daily life and potentially affecting confidence.

Fortunately, for plastic surgeons, nipple and areola correction surgery is a safe minor procedure that can also be combined with mammoplasty.

Do nipples and areolas also have a golden ratio?

For Asian women, a normal areola is typically around 3-5 centimeters in diameter. The golden ratio between the areola and the nipple is illustrated in the diagram, with the nipple diameter being one-third of the areola.

There are two main methods for reducing the areola size: (1) Areolar outer edge incision and (2) Peri-nipple inner incision. If the areola is too large, the areolar outer edge incision can remove more tissue, but it may result in a faint scar around the areola after surgery. Proper scar care can effectively minimize its appearance. The peri-nipple inner incision has a more limited range of tissue removal and is more suitable for individuals with mild conditions.

The butterfly excision method is suitable for clients with wide nipples but do not require significant nipple shortening.

 

It is essential to note that the following groups are not recommended for nipple or areola plasty:

1. Individuals with active infections or inflammation in the body.
2. Those diagnosed with cancer or precancerous conditions without proper treatment.
3. Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
4. Individuals with severe anemia or impaired blood clotting mechanisms.
5. Patients with significant medical conditions.
6. Women during their menstrual periods.
